Oroville, California - Where Nature, History, and Thriving Communities Meet

Nestled in the heart of Northern California, Oroville is a city with a rich history and vibrant present. It's known not only for its captivating surroundings but also for some impressive feats of engineering. Oroville proudly hosts the Highest Dam in America, an engineering marvel that stands as a testament to human ingenuity. As the second-largest reservoir in the United States, it shares its fame with the iconic Hoover Dam, which is renowned for being the second highest in America.

The name "Oroville" itself carries echoes of its glittering past. Translated as "Gold City" or "Gold Town," Oroville's history is closely tied to the Gold Rush era. The town was once a bustling epicenter where thousands flocked in search of precious metal. Even today, there are enthusiastic prospectors who engage in gold panning, keeping the spirit of discovery alive.

Oroville's unique geography adds to its allure, with approximately three-quarters of the city surrounded by water. This watery embrace provides ample opportunities for recreation. The favorite pastime here is year-round fishing, but the warmer months usher in a plethora of water-based activities, including swimming, boating, and jet skiing. The Forebay boasts an Aquatic Center where you can rent a variety of watercraft, from boats to hydrobikes and kayaks.

The downtown area of Oroville is experiencing a revitalization, with an array of shops and restaurants that cater to both tourists and residents. The town is expanding rapidly, with new homes, apartments, and land developments on the rise. The business landscape is also flourishing, with the arrival of well-known establishments like Starbucks, Carl's Jr., Panda Express, and a Super Walmart in recent years. Yet, Oroville retains its unique charm through cherished, long-standing businesses like Tong Fong Low, Uncle Ping's, Eathan Eateries, and Union Grill.

Surprisingly, for a town of its size, Oroville boasts not one, but two casinos – Feather Falls and Gold Country. These casinos are a significant part of the community, with both being run by the local Maidu population.
